A.L.F. Poems

taken from A.L.F.

Dedicated to A.L.F. Animal Liberation Front (author unknown)

They are wearing black,
I can hear them coming.
They cut my chain,
not my flesh.
We run into the night,
I am free.
They give me life.
Far away from terror,
Freed by terrorists…
You decide.

Dedicated to the brave members of A.L.F. who risk their own
lives to save the lives of those who can’t speak

Freedom for Birds (author unknown)

A tall forest tree is a cockatoo’s home
So why must I stay in this cage all alone?
I’m bored, sad and lonely with nothing to do,
Each day is the same with the very same view.

I watch the birds soaring high over the trees
And I long to fly with them aloft on the breeze,
Seeing new places each wondrous new day,
Swirling and twirling in glorious play.

Just one week ago a stranger passed by,
She saw me and knew that a bird longs to fly.
She asked if you’d think about setting me free.
You said, ‘This bird’s special’, and wouldn’t agree.

Well if I am special please think how I feel.
I’m not a stuffed toy, I’m alive and I’m real.
I’m not made of stone, I have feeling’s like you.
Life’s not just for human’s this world is mine too.

So now I am hoping and praying you’ll see
That to love a thing truly you must set it free,
For it matters not whether you’re big or you’re small,
A life without freedom is no life at all.

May I Go Now? (
by Susan A. Jackson)

May I Go? May I go now?
Do you think the time is right?
May I say good-bye to pain-filled days
and endless lonely nights?

I’ve lived my life and done my best,
an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond
and set my spirit free?

I didn’t want to go at first,
I fought with all my might.
But something seems to draw me now
to a warm and loving light.

I want to go. I really do.
It’s difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can
to live just one more day,

To give you time to care for me
and share your love and fears.
I know you’re sad and so afraid,
because I see your tears.

I’ll not be far, I promise that,
and hope you’ll always know
that my spirit will be close to you,
wherever you may go.

Thank you so for loving me.
You know I love you too.
That’s why it’s hard to say good-bye
and end this life with you.

So hold me now, just one more time
and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me,
you’ll let me go today.

For Their Rights
 (By Butterflies Katz
http://www.veganpoet.com)

Upon seeing them, a smile lights up my face.
They have endearing qualities we should embrace.
Their ecological footprint is hardly a trace
in comparison to that of the human race.
For their rights, a mounting movement makes a case.

They have eyes and a face akin to you and me
Animals feel and breathe, they hear and they see.
They too want to know life’s sweet ecstasy.
Our heart and soul knows they deserve to be free.
Truth compels us to help make it come to be.

They are not commodities for human use.
They were not put here for exploitive abuse.
Their lives have been shockingly put to misuse.
Our oppression of them has no just excuse.
Set the innocent captive animals loose.

Animal abuse lives on every distant shore;
all kinds of horror that our souls would deplore.
We treat these love objects and friends to adore
like enemies; on which we have declared a war.
For their rights, a world’s heroes will rise to the fore.

The Activist
 (by Paul E.)

As morning breaks she quickly runs,
When all the world’s a darkened blur,
As she brings the gift of life to ones
Condemned to die for bearing fur.

No selfish motive reigns above,
No fear of danger stays her hand!
Her mission’s one of selfless love;
No nobler cause in all the land!

The evil furrier stomps like hell.
His victims gone; his profits, too!
The brave young girl is gone as well,
Without the slightest trace or clue.

And as the next night turns to morn,
Out in the tranquil country wood,
Some happy creatures, once forlorn,
Now live in freedom, as they should.

Those Eyes (author unknown)

Your eyes did not comprehend,
The pain and suffering you endured,
With bones broken and bloodied nose,
I looked at your face into those eyes,
The eyes of the dog, fox, racoon,
Total bewilderment I beheld,
Only the beginning,
Of torture so depraved,
Next you would be hung,
Knives would rip your fur away,
Struggle but there is no escape,
Finally pulled from your skin,
Thrown like rubbish onto a pile,
Other species dead beneath,
Your sore naked body would bleed,
Enough strength to lift your head,
You died a thousand deaths,
Never to be saved,
Hell on earth,
Human domination of all living things.

Animal Rights Online Poems

!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS FOR BEING THE VOICE OF THE VOICELESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

taken from Animal Rights Online
http://www.all-creatures.org/aro/p.html

Voice Of The Voiceless
 (by Ella Wheeler Wilcox)

So many gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind,
While just the art of being kind
Is all the sad world needs.

I am the voice of the voiceless:
Through me, the dumb shall speak;
Till the deaf world’s ear be made to hear
The cry of the wordless weak.

From street, from cage and from kennel,
From jungle and stall, the wail
Of my tortured kin proclaims the sin
Of the mighty against the frail

For love is the true religion,
And love is the law sublime,
And all is wrought, where love is not
Will die at the touch of time.

Oh shame on the mothers of mortals
Who have not stopped to teach
Of the sorrow that lies in dear, dumb eyes,
The sorrow that has no speech.

The same Power formed the sparrow
That fashioned man – the King;
The God of the whole gave a living soul
To furred and to feathered thing.

And I am my brother’s keeper,
And I will fight his fight,
And speak the word for beast and bird
Till the world shall set things right.

A Fool and his Bullet
 (by Denidesign@aol.com)

With innocence and grace you run through the leaves
Unaware of the danger hiding up in the trees.
You are a staple in nature, a part of the wild
You care for your young, like any mother with child.
Instincts are keen, in a flash you will run
From the branches above, a blast from a gun
In less than a second, you fall to the floor
From a fool and his bullet, on this earth, you’re no more.

A Pig’s Silent Plea (by Susan S. Barber
bvegan@imap3.asu.edu)

From somewhere dark and cold
I hear my heart beating
I feel something out there
That chain on my neck
But I don’t feel it.
I don’t feel.

From the dark and damp recesses of my mind
I hear someone calling to me
It’s me.
But I don’t answer.
I have nothing to say.

I can only scream and rail
Alone
Inside my head I scream!
please
I beg now
Tears running into my mouth
Snot dripping down my face
I pound the walls with my bleeding hooves
I throw myself into despair and my body racks with hopeless sobs
I kick and cry and plead
I plead
for Mercy.
Inside my head.

Outside my head is a strange scary place
This cold, unyielding prison camp where my body lies immobilized in
the grip of
dominion.
The lights–
The repulsive vomitous smell of my own urine and feces
The ammonia–
But I don’t see
I don’t smell
I
I don’t have senses
I’m just an empty vessel
I’m just some Thing
I’m just some food on someone’s plate.
That’s what They say.
Outside my head.
I live in a small musty room
Inside my head.
Where I lay in a ball
curled up
and piteously mewing like the helpless tortured being I am.
I want my mommy
Inside my head.

I don’t want to be in my body
They do things to my body
Things that hurt
They hurt my body
I don’t want to know about that
I don’t want to feel that
I don’t want to acknowledge that other reality
I pace up and down my room now, waiting…
hoping…
needing…
wanting…
pleading…
for the Knife to stop the pain so I can float away.
“Someday I’ll float away”
I whisper to myself over and over
A pathetic lie I weave to wrap myself in–
but it’s still cold.

The Innocent
(by Marisa Herrera)

Our sisters and brothers tokens of man’s malice
Times past and present the innocent at the hands of viciousness
Being tortured, killed, drowned, poisoned, harpooned, electrocuted
Among countless other barbaric ways
The most innocent fall victims to man’s atrocities
These creatures who were born out of man’s circle
Always seen as objects for man’s profits

The innocent fall prey to man’s atrocities
Whether they are in the wild, the house or in the farm
Soon an innocent will be beaten to death or skinned alive
Shot for his spotted skin or magnificent tusks
Makes no difference if they are endangered or threatened
Tied behind a car, a rope dragging the victim until skin and limbs fall apart
This innocent’s life soon to be dead or crippled for life

The farm an industrial factory where the innocent are machines
Confined for life to make eggs, milk, bacon or meat on your plate
Their body parts cannot sustain such unnatural and abusive ways
Fed antibiotics, hormones, submitted to artificial insemination
Until their bodies produce no longer
Fed other innocents’ body parts – that’s not their fare
Unable to turn, roam freely, spread those wings
What man wants is the innocents’ flesh
Convenient names to forget the source of your food
You call it pork, veal, steak, bacon, ribs, sausage, paté
These were cows, pigs, birds, calves
Not one volunteered to be on your plate

The poor innocent whose lives are behind bars
You find them in zoos, laboratories, circuses
Confined in aquariums, targets in rodeos
Forced to perform tricks for man’s profit
Made to dance, skate; jump over fire – all abnormal
Behind the scenes they suffer and cry
We’ve done nothing but be of the non-human kind
We hear it’s for education, research, conservation
For us, however, it’s all misery – no exhilaration
They ask why is man so cruel?
We’ve done no crime – we are of the non-human kind

Deprived of my mother and siblings
I’m caged for research
I become the animal model
I know of needles, drugs, tests and diseases
My pain is physical, my suffering infinite
I’m caged until my death
Man has driven me insane
Is there no salvation?
No longer knowing my true self
Man has changed my behaviour
It’s called medical or scientific research
My brothers and sisters call it medical fraud
These are the ways of the human kind

Trapped in jaws of steel
Being lured by some scent or food
This poor innocent awaits hours even days of hell
An agony too real with deep cries of pain
Sheer terror fills this innocent’s soul
In desperation trying to free himself – herself
From man’s sheer greed and barbaric forms
Until the man called trapper retrieves his prey
The poor innocent an easy and defenseless prey
Maybe frozen to death
Or even having bled to death
The few who escape are crippled – with what fate?
If alive, soon the innocent will know a tragic fate

The trapper sees only money out of his prey
Stomped, broken necks, stabbed
Ways the trapper exterminates his prey
Dead skin will adorn someone’s body – tragic vanity
That fur belonged to our brothers and sisters
A beautiful creature – an innocent victim
Many innocent fall prey to man’s destructive ways
Behind are left untold orphans whose fate is eliminated
Without their mamma and papa
They have no one to take care of them
Killed were also the bothers and sisters
Families executed under the jaws of steel
These creatures subjects of man’s slaughter

The magnificent creature once full of life
That innocent creature having been born out of man’s circle
Dictated how man sees and treats the most innocent
For it is man who thinks he’s the greatest creature
Giving him rights to abuse, destroy and kill the most innocent
What fate awaits the most innocent?
When man ill-treats and betrays his own kind
If only man would open his eyes and heart
To the wonders and magnificence of the most innocent
So much to learn from these majestic creatures
They all have a purpose and right to be here
The furry, the scaly, the feathery – all creatures
They are our brothers and sisters.

A Night In A Cage (by Michelle Krapf – Krzygurl83@aol.com)

Running free, in the wild
In their homes, enjoying the freedom
Is all an animal really needs.
To be on their own and to be free
Just like a human.
Put in a cage is like living under fascism.
What if a human spent a night in a cage?
Away from their family and all that they love
Stuck in a small space without anything
Unlike the freedom of their home.
Imagine that every day of your life
Like an animal in captivity.

Captivity (
by J. Box)

The bird is caged, alone all day.
The owner’s at work, it’s been 10 hours.
Locked away from freedom, the bird suffers with anguish.
The animals die in our zoos and out homes.

Plucked from the herd
In a truck all alone

We save the animals from their habitat
Then fly them back to unfamiliar climate zones
for our enjoyment, we have them slaves, captives.
The animals die in our zoos and our homes.

Plucked from the herd
In a truck all alone
With no home
Waiting to be owned.

A Place for the Animals
 (by Ann Ketzlick)

Oh, Loving God
Who created them all,
From small creeping bugs
To giraffes to tall.

Who in our care
Has placed your creatures
I ask, “Why is cruelty
One of man’s features?”

Forced to give us food
And pull our carts,
Have we no pity
For their broken hearts?

Science and Medicine
Are yet another tool,
For causing them pain
And being so cruel.

And when the circus
Comes to town,
Do we see their tears
When the curtain goes down?

Some people wear fur
As they stroll through the city,
I think it’s so heartless
And not very pretty.

Deep in the woods,
A place some call their home
,
They run in great fear
From the hunters that roam.

Their sad eyes show us
There’s no understanding,
Why man is indifferent
And so very demanding!

They give up their lives
,
They give us their best,
All they are asking
Is a place just to rest.

And so, My Dear Lord
I Pray unto You,
Save a place in Your Kingdom
For the animals too.
